VCUarts: Everything You Need to Know Before Applying

QUICK ANSWER

Applying to VCUarts is a two-step process inside a large university. You submit the Common App first; VCU then emails a link to upload program-specific materials, such as the portfolio, in its applicant portal. You do not submit the portfolio through the Common App. For fall 2027, apply by November 1, 2026 for university scholarship consideration, or by January 15, 2027 for a decision guaranteed by April 1.

Admitted visual arts and design students begin in the Art Foundation Program, a required first year built on surface, space, time and drawing.
