QUICK ANSWER
Ringling’s application is simple, but one rule shapes several of its majors. A portfolio is required for all majors unless the application says otherwise, submitted through the Common App Arts Supplement (SlideRoom). SAT and ACT scores are not required, and recommendations are optional. For Computer Animation, Game Art, Illustration and Virtual Reality Development, at least half the portfolio should be drawing from direct observation.
In our record Ringling admitted 36 of our students and funded 20 (56%), averaging $36,750.

Building a Ringling Portfolio
- Read your major’s page first. Requirements differ by major.
- For animation and illustration, draw from life. Half the portfolio, by Ringling’s own rule.
- Use the sketchbook. Ringling welcomes sketchbook pages for these majors.
- Show thinking. Ringling says the portfolio is there to demonstrate creative thinking.
