Royal Blue Art & Design: Who Is It For?

Royal Blue Art & Design is not the right program for every Korean student pursuing US art school. Understanding who the program is designed for — and who it is not the best fit for — helps families make an informed decision rather than enrolling in a program that isn’t aligned with their situation and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Royal Blue Is For: Students Targeting Top US Art Programs

Royal Blue’s preparation is calibrated for students targeting the most competitive US art programs: RISD, Parsons, CalArts, SVA, Pratt, Cooper Union, SAIC, and comparable programs at strong university art schools.

The program’s depth — 19 years of documented results, comprehensive preparation scope, individual instruction, English writing support, and supplemental component preparation — is most valuable for students whose target programs have the competitive dynamics that require this level of preparation.

Students targeting less competitive programs may find that the scope and investment of Royal Blue’s program exceeds what their situation requires.

Royal Blue Is For: Students With 18 to 24 Months of Preparation Time

Royal Blue’s preparation structure is built around the 18 to 24 month timeline that competitive US art school applications require. Students who are beginning preparation in 10th or early 11th grade — giving the program the full preparation time needed — are the ideal candidates.

Students in 12th grade with applications due in 4 to 6 months are facing a compressed timeline that constrains what any preparation program can accomplish. We are honest about this: Royal Blue can help compressed-timeline students maximize what is possible within their constraints, but we will not misrepresent what is achievable in 4 months compared to 20.

Royal Blue Is For: Students at Any Skill Level

Royal Blue does not require a minimum prior skill level for enrollment. Our intake assessment identifies where a student is and builds a preparation arc from that point. Students with no prior formal art training, students with Korean domestic art academy backgrounds, and students with international school art programs all work within Royal Blue’s preparation structure — with curriculum calibrated to their starting point.

What we do require is genuine commitment: a student who will engage seriously with the preparation process, show up consistently, invest in feedback, and treat the 18 to 24 months of preparation as the priority it must be to produce competitive outcomes.

Royal Blue Is For: Families Who Value Honest Communication

Royal Blue presents its results specifically and honestly. We tell families what our track record actually shows, what is realistically achievable for their student, and what we cannot guarantee. We do not use the inflated claims, pressure tactics, or vague marketing language that some Korean art academy marketing deploys.

Families who want a program that will tell them clearly what their student is capable of — and what they need to do to achieve it — are well-suited to Royal Blue’s approach.

Royal Blue May Not Be the Best Fit For:

  • Students applying to programs where Royal Blue’s specific expertise doesn’t concentrate. Our strongest track record is in US programs. Students targeting UK or European programs may be better served by programs with specific UK/European admissions expertise.
  • Students who need a primarily formula-based approach. Royal Blue’s PID methodology requires genuine creative engagement from students. Students who want to be told exactly what to make and produce predictable, formula-derived work will not find that approach here.
  • Students or families seeking guaranteed admission promises. We do not make these promises. If a family’s primary requirement is an assurance of admission to a specific school, Royal Blue — or any honest program — cannot meet that requirement.

Getting Started

공식 정보: College Art Association

Initial consultations at Royal Blue are available to families who want to discuss their student’s situation, review our admissions track record, and understand what a preparation plan would look like. These consultations are substantive — not sales presentations — and include a honest assessment of where a student is and what realistic preparation looks like for their target programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

My student has never taken formal art classes. Can they still apply to RISD with Royal Blue’s help? Yes — with the caveat that starting from a very early skill level requires the full 24-month preparation timeline and significant weekly commitment. Students who begin in 10th grade with no prior training and commit fully can produce competitive applications for RISD-level programs. Starting later compresses the timeline and constrains outcomes.

My student is interested in Parsons for fashion design specifically. Does Royal Blue have relevant expertise? Yes. Royal Blue has documented Parsons Fashion Design admissions results and prepares the full application including Parsons’ required essays — which is mandatory for all Parsons BFA applicants including Fashion Design.

We are based outside Seoul. Is Royal Blue accessible? Royal Blue’s primary preparation is in-person in Apgujeong. Families from other parts of Korea who are committed to top US program preparation sometimes arrange to relocate to the Gangnam area for the preparation period. Contact us to discuss your specific logistics.
