QUICK ANSWER
Korean entrance-exam drawing (입시미술) is a real skill, but it was built for a timed test that even some Korean universities no longer use. Hongik University’s 2027 미술우수자 admission, for 289 places, has no practical drawing test: it is decided on school records, documents and an interview. U.S. art schools have never used that test at all.
What transfers is observational drawing, which Pratt and ArtCenter ask for directly. What does not transfer is the set subject drawn from a photo under a time limit, which RISD explicitly discourages. The task is to keep the first and replace the second.

So a student who trained only for the timed drawing test is under-prepared on both sides of the Pacific. The fix is the same for both: a body of self-directed work, documented process, and the ability to talk about it.
