RISD is test-optional for 2026 admissions — SAT or ACT scores are not required. For students who submit scores, the middle 50% range has historically fallen around 1300-1470 SAT (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math). However, RISD’s admission is portfolio-driven — a strong portfolio matters far more than test scores. Korean students with strong portfolios but moderate test scores can succeed; students with excellent test scores but weak portfolios typically cannot.

Korean IB students benefit from the IB’s strong academic reputation while focusing primary attention on portfolio development. IB HL Visual Arts courses can support applications but are not required.
A-Level grades are generally accepted by US art schools as legitimate secondary school credentials, equivalent to US high school diplomas. Competitive A-Level grades for top art schools typically require multiple A grades. Portfolio quality drives art school admission far more than specific A-Level grades. Korean students following British curriculum (international schools) can successfully apply to US art schools with strong A-Levels and excellent portfolios.
