QUICK ANSWER
Our clearest lessons come from our own record: 1,099 acceptances at 95 schools from 2009 to 2026, each confirmed directly with the student. Four patterns stand out. Acceptances spread widely, funding depends on the school list, a high average award is not the same as a high chance of one, and small numbers need care.
None of these is a prediction for any one student. They are reasons to build a list deliberately rather than around a few famous names.

Lesson 1: The List Matters More Than One Name
Our ten most frequent schools account for 663 of 1,099 acceptances, about 60%. The other 436 are spread across 85 more schools. The schools that admit our students are far more varied than the handful of names families usually start with.

Lesson 2: Funding Varies Enormously by School
| School | Admits | With an award | Average award |
|---|---|---|---|
| Otis | 38 | 31 (82%) | $63,935 (n=31) |
| SCAD | 42 | 34 (81%) | $30,221 (n=34) |
| MICA | 64 | 51 (80%) | $54,290 (n=51) |
| SAIC | 81 | 56 (69%) | $46,775 (n=56) |
| Parsons | 63 | 38 (60%) | $53,116 (n=38) |
| CCA | 50 | 24 (48%) | $57,167 (n=24) |
| Pratt | 102 | 40 (39%) | $67,638 (n=40) |
| SVA | 140 | 41 (29%) | $58,944 (n=41) |
| RISD | 68 | 4 (6%) | Not reported (n=4) |
Royal Blue results record, 2009–2026, all majors combined, sorted by award rate. Award figures are shares of our admits, not admission rates. CCA has announced it will close at the end of 2026–27.
The same student can face very different costs depending on where they are admitted. A list made only of low-award schools risks a spring with acceptances but no affordable offer.

Lesson 3: Rate and Size Are Different Things
SCAD made awards to 81% of our admits, but the average was $30,221. Pratt made awards to 39%, but the average was $67,638. One school funds many students modestly; the other funds fewer students heavily. Families should look at both numbers, and at the count behind each average.

Lesson 4: Small Numbers Need Care
RISD made awards to only 4 of our 68 admits, too few to report an average. CalArts appears 15 times in total, too few for any rate. We show the count (n) next to every average so readers can see when a figure rests on very few students.
FOR KOREAN FAMILIES
Use these patterns to shape a list: include schools that suit the portfolio, at least one with a high award rate in our record, and treat any average with a small n as a rough signal. Our record page and full results show the underlying numbers.
